awen

As an intransitive verb, awen means “to stay, wait, remain, reside”:

o awen lon ni. Wait here.

jan utala li awen lon tomo lili The soldier lives in a small house.

As a transitive verb, awen means “to keep”:

mi awen e moku tawa sina I’ll keep some food for you.

ona li wile awen pona e ma She wants to keep the environment good. She wants to preserve the environment.

As a modifier, awen means “that stays, permanent, remaining, sedentary”:

toki awen communication that stays written text, inscription, book

tomo awen a place to stay, a hotel or inn a house that stays, a permanent building for long-term settlement

As a noun, awen means “staying, waiting, keeping”.

awen ala li pona It’s good to not cling too much or not get too fixated.
